Ooredoo in Kuwait confirms commitment to developing local talent

Ooredoo in Kuwait announced on 21 September, 2014 the successful completion by 2 senior leaders of the first module of a 5 month Business Leaders Development programme that they were nominated to earlier in the year. Basel Ramadhan and Shaimaa Al Najdi attended the leadership programme at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), ranked first worldwide in executive education.

Ooredoo is the first company in Kuwait to involve its senior management in similar high level international programmes. Saleh Al-Houti, Chief Human Resources and Administration Services, said: “One of the major purposes of the training and development programme is to encourage employees to think about leadership styles and people management practices that would enrich their personal and professional lives. As Ooredoo, we want to foster a culture of excellence throughout our company and develop Kuwaiti leaders.”

During the programme, participants were able to learn essential skills through a series of specific programmes that are expected to help them navigate through the fast changing market conditions within the telecommunications industry. Key topics included setting and evaluating strategies, market and customer analysis, risk management and disruptive innovation.

Commenting on their Swiss trip, Basel and Shaimaa said that they now have a new perspective on leadership practices within their peer group globally. Their international experience enhanced at one of the top schools in the world enhanced their team skills and awareness of different cultures and best practices.

In line with the company’s vision of enriching people’s lives, Ooredoo has taken steps to focus its efforts on the employees’ personal and professional development. A series of programmes have been developed to enhance training and development of Kuwaiti talent. Recently, 4 Kuwaiti veterans from senior management, with 10 years of experience within the Ooredoo, successfully completed the first module of an Innovation Challenge Programme with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.

Jassem AbdulRaheem, Khaled Al Saraya, Bader Al Ali and Bader Al Humaimeedi will undergo a three stage journey that started with a 5 day training on innovation in Kuwait and will end with an additional 5 days at UC Berkley in California and Silicon Valley in the USA. The objective is to plan and execute an innovative initiative over 5 months that will create an impactful change in the workplace.

Omar Al-Bassam, Director for Human Resources and Strategic Development, said: “This programme is intended to cultivate talent and recognize leaders within our team who continuously contribute to the growth of our organization. We have identified a series of talent development for executives that will enhance competitiveness amongst management and are needed for further skill development and leadership styles.”

In terms of additional programmes, Ooredoo is developing 5 HR Kuwaiti nationals with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) accreditation in England, one of the most professional and reputable certification in the Human Resources field.
