New Indian ambassador to take up assignment shortly

Veteran diplomat K. Jeeva Sagar has been appointed as the new Ambassador of India to Kuwait and is expected to soon arrive in the country to take up his assignment.

Ambassador Sagar who is currently serving as Joint Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi is a career diplomat from the 1991 batch of Indian Foreign Services. Since joining the foreign ministry the ambassador has had a distinguished career that has seen him take up various postings in different parts of the world. 

He has held offices at Indian embassies in West Asia (Iran), Europe (Ireland), Southern Africa (Zimbabwe), Latin America (Mexico) and East Asia (South Korea), before being appointed as Indian High Commissioner to the Republic of Ghana in 2013. While in Ghana he was also concurrently accredited to the Republics of Togo, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone.  Among his many responsibilities during his stints at the foreign-ministry headquarters in New Delhi was two years as Director of Pakistan Affairs where he dealt with the Composite Dialogue with Pakistan.

Born to teacher-parents in the south-eastern Indian town of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, the Ambassador Designate to Kuwait attended Nobel College, one of the oldest educational institutions in India, before furthering his education at the University of Hyderabad, where he was among the first batch of alumni to graduate from the Applied Physics Department.

Ambassador Sagar is married to Lydia Srilatha, a graduate in Biology with a Masters in Business, and the couple are blessed with two lovely daughters.
