NATO-Kuwait ICI Regional Center keen stability of region, world

The North Atlantic Treaty Organizations (NATO) Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Regional Center in Kuwait

Established in January 2017, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Regional Center in Kuwait serves as an entity dedicated to the stability of the region and the world.

The headquarters of the center is equipped with the latest tools and training facilities aimed at providing NATO expertize to Kuwaiti government institutes and members of the ICI.

The NATO ICI Regional Center is also hopeful to bolster cooperation with Kuwait within the security domain. Speaking to KUNA on the services of the center, Director of Fawaz Al-Othman indicated that the center offered the latest in NATO expertize and training to members of the ICI.

The aim of the center is to build bridges of cooperation between NATO and allies especially with GCC countries, said Al-Othman who indicated that the Kuwaiti government was one of the major benefactors of the center.

In regards to the administration of the center, Al-Othman indicated that Kuwait's National Security Bureau (NSB) handles the process in coordination with NATO, adding his country had always been a valid partner before and since joining the ICI in 2004.

In December 2006, Kuwait organized the international NATO-GCC conference, which planted the initial seeds to host the ICI Regional Center, said Al-Othman, adding that the GCC member issued an official request to host the center in February 14, 2012 during its participation in another NATO-GCC meeting.

The initiative was approved by NATO's Chicago summit on May 20 the same year, reflecting the strong partnership between NATO and Kuwait, affirmed Al-Othman.

He added that Kuwait also joined the organization's Individual Partnership and Cooperation Programme (IPCP) in 2014, which further solidified cooperation. Since establishment, NATO-Kuwait ICI Regional Center hosted eight training programs with the participation of 400 personnel from Kuwaiti and GCC government institutes.
