Moisturize properly

Applying moisturizer doesn’t seem like one of those things that require a ton of thought. You pour a bit into your hands, slather it on your faces and go on about your day. This mentality could be causing you to misuse your moisturizer, and, for all that money you spend on your skincare routine, you should be getting the most out of it. Check out these tips on how to maximize your moisturizing experience.

Layer it properly: Using two or more skincare products are better than one. No matter how amazing and effective your moisturizer might be, you will get the most functionality out of it by pairing it with an equally powerful serum. Make sure you are getting the best possible moisture by throwing on a targeted hydrating serum before you slather on the moisturizer. This is especially important for those with ultra-dry and/or mature complexions.

Timing is everything: Make sure you are applying your moisturizer at optimal times. Meaning, there are definite times that the skin best absorbs moisture. After you shower or wash your face, for example is a great time to throw on your moisturizer. Do not apply your cream on wet, dripping skin as it will slide right off. Instead, apply it after you have patted your face and body down with a towel as your skin will still be moist and able to lock in that product.

Use the right amount: When it comes to applying moisturizer, you need to decide for yourself the correct portion that is just right for your skin - not too little and not too much. And while serving size can vary depending on your skin type and face shape, best rule of thumb is making sure you are able to rub in all of your product. If it won’t fully absorb, you are using too much. So start with a small amount, and build as needed until your face and neck are good to go.

Pick the right formula: Everyone’s skin needs are different, so one moisturizer does not necessarily fit all. Make sure you are picking out the correct moisturizer for your skin type to ensure you are getting the maximum benefits. Otherwise you might find yourself with some unnecessary skin problems on your hands.

Don’t neglect the neck: One of the most important places to keep hydrated and healthy is also the most commonly neglected: the neck. The skin around the neck and decollete is thin and pretty fragile and therefore most susceptible to dryness, damage and premature aging. The whole ‘turkey neck’ effect you’ve all heard about is a real thing. Do some damage control by making sure you are working your moisturizer onto your neck and chest area.
