Ministry of Education Undersecretary Dr. Haitham Al-Athari said the ministry has opened its doors to recruit non-Kuwaiti teachers for academic year 2018/2019 locally.

According to his statement, the recruitment is limited to 13 specializations and nine of them are for male teachers. He disclosed the ministry needs male teachers for English, French, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Visual Arts Education, Physics and Décor.

He said the ministry’s need for female teachers are limited to four specializations, two of which will be shared with men — Physics and Mathematics; whereas the need for female teachers only is in Physical Education and Music.

He enumerated the conditions as follows: should not be more than 45 years old except women applying for Physical Education which is limited to those below 32 years old, in addition to exemptions of experience for holders of masters and doctorate degrees in all fields.

He added the university graduates should hold a certificate with at least ‘good’ mark, while three categories must present experience certificate — Bedouns, foreign wives of Kuwaiti men and children of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis.

Meanwhile, Head of the Teachers Syndicate in the Ministry of Education Saleh Al-Azmi urged the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to withdraw its decision to terminate 214 social workers in public schools until the commission finds qualified replacements among Kuwaiti graduates.

In his press statement, Al- Azmi described the decision as hasty and unstudied, so it will cause upheaval in the operations of schools.

He explained such decisions harm the educational process considering the lack of qualified replacements to fill positions vacated by terminated foreign employees. He added education cannot be managed through unilateral decisions; hence, the need to consult all concerned educational bodies.
