Ministry of Electricity and Water is considering the possibility of charging consumers the cost for reconnecting their electricity supply after it was disconnected due to violations or repair works.

They explained that Kuwait Municipality addresses Ministry of Electricity and Water about the violations of the relevant consumers or the need for some repair work so that their electricity supply is cut off. According to the existing system, the repair costs are borne by Ministry of Electricity and Water. However, the ministry is considering the possibility of charging the consumers the costs for maintenance works, digging and the cables. The charges will differ based on the violations and the maintenance activities.

Meanwhile, Minister of Electricity and Water Ahmad Al-Jassar has signed a contract for establishing seven main transformer stations in Jabriya, Khaitan, Bayan, Andalous, Zahra, Salwa and Sulaibikhat areas followed by other areas of Kuwait.

The total cost of the project, which will take 24 months for completion, is KD 24,975,000. It will supply the electrical distribution network with 72MW of power and will ensure supply for the future housing projects.
