Police rescue teams were quick to respond as many ambulances reached the accident site to help the injured.
At least 14 people were injured in a 57-vehicle pile-up on Al Ain-Abu Dhabi road near Abu Samrah early on Thursday.
Some of the injured are in serious condition and have been moved to nearby hospitals, according to the police.
The accidents occurred on both sides of the road. According to the police, around 39 cars rammed into each other on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain side of the road, while 18 vehicles hit each other on the Al Ain-Abu Dhabi side of the road.
Thick fog enveloping the area led to the accident, said a police official.
The road was completely blocked for several, said the official. The road was reopened around 12:20pm, according to Abu Dhabi Police.
Ahmad Sharif, a witness, said it was a 'big pile-up of vehicles' but he was not sure how many vehicles were involved. “It was total chaos,” said Sharif, adding that people were running to different cars and helping injured people.
Police rescue teams were quick to respond; ambulances and police vehicle rushed to the accident site and helped the injured, he said.
Abu Samrah is a small town some 40km in the west of Al Ain on Al Ain-Abu Dhabi Road.
