Embassy of the Republic of Malawi celebrated their country’s 50th National Day with a reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 2 October. Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Meshan was the guest of honor at the gathering that saw attendance by members of the diplomatic corps, Kuwaiti officials, invitees and media personnel. Deputy Ambassador Alison Liwande alongside Kuwait’s ministry of foreign affairs officials cut the ceremonial cake.

In his speech, Ambassador Al-Meshan mentioned that Kuwait has allocated to Africa a fund of $1 billion for 54 different projects in the fields of agriculture, water, roads and hospitals and energy, and Malawi would benefit from the development projects.

Meanwhile, Deputy Ambassador Liwande lauded Kuwait’s contribution to the development of infrastructure in Malawi, pointing out the financing of five economic and developmental projects in the fields of roads, telecommunication, education and health. He expressed his appreciation towards His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the support given to Malawi, adding that he is looking forward to developing trade, economic and tourism ties with Kuwait.
