Heavy rain on Saturday caused flooding of many streets in Jahra, and this prompted a number of lawmakers to demand an investigation into the area’s drainage system. MP Talal Al-Jallal urged the Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity and Water Khalid Al-Jassar to create an investigation committee to uncover the reasons behind the drainage system failure. MP Al-Jallal added that it was imperative for the minister to take measures to prevent such a fiasco from happening again. He went on to ask for an improvement in Jahra’s infrastructure and requested the minister to set things right if the minister’s report revealed negligence as the cause of the flooding.
MP Madhi Al-Hajri criticized what he described as “government bodies’ leniency”, including the MPW, with regards to the drainage issue that allowed Saturday’s heavy rainfall to turn Saad Al-Abdullah into a disaster area that was completely paralyzed. “Those responsible must be held accountable,” he demanded. MP Faisal Al-Kandari expressed shock at what he considered was “the fragility of infrastructure” in some areas around Kuwait.
