National Assembly Secretary MP Ouda Al-Ruwaiee commended efforts exerted recently to identify those with forged qualifications and researches and then referring them to the Public Prosecution.

The lawmaker stressed the importance of standing strong against these individuals in order to improve the quality of education in the country. While pointing out that this recent development is a breath of fresh air, Al-Ruwaiee asserted Kuwait University is not free of violations and it suffers from a lot of educational malpractices including intellectual property rights violations which, unfortunately, are being neglected.

This has prompted Al- Ruwaiee to submit a number of queries to Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Hamed Al-Azmi regarding this issue. He also demanded for clarifications on matters concerning the association of faculty members.

His query about the association has not been well received by some of its members, which baffled the MP as this is a parliamentary tool that the State granted to lawmakers. It has become apparent that some members of the association are unhappy to hear the MP’s request to look into dissertations of faculty members, claiming that he has no right to do so.

In another development, Article Five of Law No. 8/2010 on the rights of a disabled person mandates the government to provide all means for the disabled to enjoy political and social rights; while Article 14 stipulates that all governmental bodies with at least 50 employees should ensure the disabled constitute four percent of the total Kuwaiti manpower. Based on these articles, MP Askar Al-Enizi has forwarded questions to State Minister for Housing and State Services Dr. Jenaan Boshihri.

He asked if the Public Authority for Housing Welfare is complying with the law. If not, he wants to know the reasons; and if yes, he requested for the names and positions of employees with special needs.

On the other hand, MP Majed Al-Mutairi has submitted a proposal for the Ministry of Health and other concerned authorities to establish women and pediatric medical centers in Ahmadi and Mubarak Al- Kabeer governorates. He said these medical centers should cater for the medical needs of women and children.
