The proposal to reduce the service period for Kuwaiti employees to 25 years for men and 20 years for women is being supported by 40 MPs, which makes it difficult for the government to dismiss the proposal, as with the case of the proposal for allocation of special allowances to military employees, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to informed sources, the government objected to the proposal because of the objection of the Public Authority for Social Security which insisted that early retirement will lead to huge financial burden on the authority. Some parliamentary sources suggested obligating the employees who are willing to retire early to pay the amount that would be deducted from their salaries for the years remaining until their actual retirement time.

The proposal is expected to be discussed in the parliamentary session to be held on January 9. Rapporteur of the parliament’s Finance Committee MP Salah Khorshid indicated that the committee has completed its work in this regard, and the report is ready to be included in the agenda. He denied any intention to withdraw the proposal.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Municipality has standardized the heights in the public schools of all educational zones, determining the permitted heights in ground floor only for kindergarten stage, and the heights of ground, first and second floors for all elementary, intermediate and secondary stages, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a letter addressed to Undersecretary of Ministry of Education Dr. Haitham Al-Atari, the Assistant Director General for Urban Planning Sector and Structural Planning at Kuwait Municipality Mohammed Al-Za’abi stressed the need to provide his administration with the design standards adopted by Ministry of Education for the heights of the four educational stages in only public schools.
