MP Mansour Al- Thafiri has asked all concerned governmental bodies to closely monitor the prices of commodities in the local market, especially since the Holy Month of Ramadan is just around the corner. He stressed the importance of strictly enforcing Consumer Protection Law number 39/2014 to safeguard the consumers from greedy merchants who increase the prices of their products without justification.
He pointed out the Kuwait Municipality and Ministry of Commerce and Industry must shoulder this responsibility, because it is under their jurisdiction. He urged both institutions to intensify their efforts in controlling the prices of commodities, indicating the greedy traders often take advantage of the fact that demand is high during Ramadan so they increase the prices without any valid reason. He also praised the ministry for forming a team tasked to monitor the prices, asserting the ministry must collaborate with other concerned governmental bodies to prevent not only the unreasonable price hikes but commercial cheating as well.
