MP Hamoud Al- Hamdan has submitted parliamentary questions to the State Minister for Housing Affairs Yasser Abul regarding rumors that claim Al-Mutla area, which the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) is planning to use for housing, was exposed to uranium during Kuwait’s liberation war. He said, “Since urbanization necessitates creation of new residential areas, PAHW is planning to construct housing plots in Al-Mutla area and distribute them to citizens.
However, there are speculations on social networking websites that this area was exposed to uranium during the liberation war in Kuwait”. Al-Hamdan asked, “Is this true? Has the area been tested to determine if it is free of radiation, toxic gases and harmful chemicals? Has PAHW taken any measures to ensure the safety of these lands before it made the announcement of distributing them to citizens?”
