MP Abdullah Al-Mayouf has asked the government to quickly implement the Conscription Law in accordance with the directive of Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah.
Al-Mayouf explained the law is supposed to take effect a year after its publication in the official gazette, but the government realized that it covers a number of categories starting from the age of 18. He said the government did not rush the implementation of the law because the military camps are not yet ready, in addition to other administrative arrangements. He pointed out the Ministry of Defense needs more time to take financial, administrative and training procedures to accommodate the huge number of recruits. He stressed the Parliament and government agreed on the urgency of the matter when they expedited the enactment of the law, but several stages must be completed prior to the full implementation.
