Ministry of Health's Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs Dr. Qais Al-Duwairi said Saturday the ministry and the Gulf Excellence Award co-launched a series of campaigns to generate awareness on prevention of diabetes. Al-Duwairi, who is also a member of the Organizing Committee of the Gulf Council of Health Ministers, in a press statement, said that it is vital that all sectors affiliated with the GEA contribute to the development of the awareness campaigns.
Al-Duwairi revealed that the Organizing Committee had thoroughly discussed the GEA in its last meeting, saying that awareness should be generated on the credibility of the prize. During the upcoming session, the best five projects from various medical fields will be sent to the Organizing Committee, who would then decide on the winner of the prestigious prize, Al-Duwairi said.
Al-Duwairi also said that prevention of diabetes has been selected as the health issue to address for 2015, with prevention of breast cancer to follow next year. The rules and regulations of the GEA have also been modified, he added.
