Lorna Cordeiro wins hearts in Kuwait
September 5, 2015, 4:08 pm

Over a thousand die-hard Lorna Cordeiro and Konkani music fans crammed into the American International School Auditorium in Hawally to witness the 'Nightingale of Goa', perform live on the 28 August, 2015.

In what was probably the best organized Goan program in Kuwait in a very long time, 'An evening with Lorna’, organized by ‘Celebrate Entertainment’, a newly formed Event & Media management company in Kuwait, was an astounding success.

The mostly second and third generations young Lorna fans, most  of whom had never seen her but had grown up listening to her famous songs being played zealously by their parents, enjoyed the evening of wonderful performances, not only from Lorna, who was accompanied by the very talented Norman Cardozo on the keyboard, but also by all the other stage performers.

The program kicked off,  with Kuwait’s expatriate Goan band ‘The Classix’ warming up the audience with some retro English renditions and all-time Goan favorites. With the eager crowd enthusiastically screaming, “Lorna, Lorna”, the diva glided across the stage flawlessly singing ‘Denem’ (gift) a new composition, wherein she thanks the almighty for the gift of her voice.

The evening witnessed an enchanting repertoire of songs crooned impeccably by the talented artist, including such all time favorites and timeless hits such as, ‘Portun aikat mozo tavo’, 'Sopon’  and ‘Amerikak Paushi’. The very enthusiastic audience joined Lorna in 'Tuzo Mog and the evening ended on a high with a rendition of 'Lisboa' and 'Bebdo'.

Providing brief breathers during the show were local talent Jhankar Dance Acadamy, which took center stage to perform some amazing dance routines, and Penny’s Dance group, which performed the Kulti Fogdi, a traditional Goan harvest dance.

A highlight of the evening was the interaction Lorna was able to have with the audience through emcee Lloyd D’Souza, who every now and then got Lorna to share some trivia about herself.  Popular Kuwaiti singer Mubarak Al Rashed who is a lover of Indian music, also made a guest appearance on stage and surprised and impressed the crowd with his charming rendition of 'Senorita' from a popular Hindi film.

The novelty of Lorna, who started her career as a Jazz singer, is her intense mellifluous voice, which, along with popular Chris Perry compositions, have seen her performing for fans all over the world, including in the Middle-East, USA, UK, France and Portugal.

Chief Guest for the evening, Jawahar Al Bader and the guest of honor Anand D’Souza were invited on stage and presented with a bouquet of flowers.  Both Lorna and Cardozo were honored by the organizers towards the end of the evening with plaques and given thanks for making the evening such a success.

For the mainly Goan audience eager for some quality entertainment, the entire show was a novelty. As people filed out of the auditorium, the huge impact Lorna had created and the success of the show was evident from the smiling faces and the seemingly endless queue to take selfies with Lorna.

Celebrate Entertainment and its young manager Cheslee  D’souza can take a bow for finally giving the Goans a mega event that was superbly organized from start to finish.
