Layer necklaces like a pro
July 30, 2017, 4:29 pm

There is one thing that all fashion enthusiasts agree on—that accessories can make an outfit.  Layered necklaces have become a jewelry trend that rarely goes out of favor, but there is a skill to layering necklaces that some people just don't have.  From the smart work wear add-ons that could seal the deal in the office to the most of-the-moment tweaks that can spin a basic outfit into a high-fashion trajectory, you have to know the most important accessorizing rules.

The classic double: The necklace layering method favored by most entails having two simple gold or silver necklaces—one noticeably shorter than the other—to wear with every outfit. It is so subtle that many girls do this alongside statement earrings. However, for those in the sophisticated realm, nothing says a statement necklace is powerful other than two statement necklaces. Bring together two that share one common detailing, which in some cases is fringe or chain links. Another way to follow this style tip, team a demure collar necklace with a pretty pearl pendant which can quickly turn a delicate aesthetic into an edgy one.

Holiday Freestyle: You have got your classic double all set, but you are on holiday and soaking up the local vibes. Cue the artisanal number you bought at a charming market and flaunt it with style.

Add a choker or collar: Nothing is quite as sublime as intricate, color-coordinated ensembles of chokers paired with fine gold or silver chains that are worth paying attention to. Or, get into fierce layer styling by doubling up on chunky pieces: a three-stone collar and an ornate cross. If that is too busy for your taste, scale back with one stone and gold-plated snake chains.

No matching allowed: For the brave accessory-loving women out there, it is your time to shine. Throw on multiple layers of bold and colorful statement necklaces to give your go-to pendant a boost.  The only rule to remember is that there are no rules, feel free to mix and match.

Multiple medallions: If you're a boho girl at heart, then the triple-long pendant or medallion formula is for you. Go the extra mile, and power up your jewellery look with matching hoops, bangles and rings. The best options are in gold. Alternatively, you can add interest to your everyday medallion necklace with a super long tasseled necklace. Be daring and mix it up with a different shades.

With a neck scarf: While not technically a necklace, there is no escaping the neck scarf right now, so you may as well feel liberated enough to pair up the two trends. Tie a short silk scarf around your neck as a choker. Knot it in back and tuck in the flyaways. Then, layer with a long gold necklace.

Molten pile-on: A stack of delicate strands can turn into one statement piece. Experiment with various shapes to add layers of interest. If you would prefer to dive head first into this trend, then go for chunkier chains and a mix of metals, a kind of messy-but-organized approach is right for the rock chicks of this world.
