Lawmaker submits ‘off-on-50 degree Celsius’ proposal
July 4, 2017, 10:03 am

MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei has submitted a bill on suspending work in government institutions and agencies, as well as classes in schools, colleges or universities, when the temperature reaches 50 degrees Celsius.

The bill states that suspension of work and classes will be announced through text and electronic messages and the institutions will be provided with screens displaying the temperature.

In the explanatory note of the bill, Al-Tabtabaei cited the international treaties on protecting the rights of citizens and ensuring their safety. He said he drafted this bill due to his concern for the health of citizens and expatriates, indicating work and classes must be suspended when the temperature is extremely high.
