Kuwait will witness this year a large number of roads’ development ventures namely inauguration of a main highway, part of renovating Al- Jahra road, an official of the Ministry of Public Labor announced on Sunday. Ahmad Al-Hsan, the assistant undersecretary for roads’ engineering, made the announcement while inaugurating a turning point on Al-Nuwaiseeb road, as part of up to eight new points, noting that they are designed to minimize accidents. The official said draft plans had been worked out to renovate the fourth ring road, indicating that consultancy houses would be sounded out, pending endorsement and execution.
The ministry’s road sector has already earmarked a budget estimated at KD 500 million, forecasting its endorsement by the Ministry of Finance in a few months. Project to upgrade the fi rst ring road is proceeding as scheduled, Al-Hsan said, revealing that the relevant contract had been signed and work had begun five months ago. Moreover, he indicated at signing another contract to develop Al-Bede’ roundabout.
Work orders will be issued later this month for this project, in addition to main roads linking Al-Wafra road, Sabah Al-Ahmad district and Al-Khairan. In another report, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Public Works says experiment conducted on the use of British asphalt to solve the problem of ‘flying stones’ is successful, noting the mixture will be used for road maintenance in all upcoming projects, reports Al-Anba daily.
Speaking to the daily, Al-Ghunaim added the road paved with British asphalt on experimental basis is located toward the Jassem Al-Kharafi Road, and that all local companies pre-qualified for projects at the ministeries complex in Jahra have been notifi ed by Central Tenders Committee in that regard. Meanwhile, a reliable source said the Ministry of Public Works has reshuffled 17 heads of department to improve the activities of the ministry.
