Kuwait is considering legislation that would change the terms “domestic worker” and “housemaid” to “servant”, state media agency KUNA reported.
The Cabinet discuss the legal change on Monday but did not detail reasons for preferring the term “servant”.
There are thousands of domestic workers in the Gulf state, including maids, nannies and personal drivers. Majority are from Africa and southern Asian countries.
About two-thirds of Kuwait’s 3 million residents are expats.
