Two Kuwaiti academics highlighted late Saturday their country's efforts in spreading notions of tolerance and acceptance to counter extreme ideologies and terror.

During a symposium organized by Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (IESCO) on promoting understanding amongst people held in the city of Fes, the academics affirmed that Kuwait will use all of its resources to support moderate ideals.

Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs as well as a college-level professor Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Qahtan said that it was important for officials and leading figures in society to promote notions of tolerance and understanding.

Kuwait has always been a country that dealt with extremism in a manner that protected society for the ills of such problem, said Al-Qahtan who also stressed that Kuwaiti society was for moderation in all aspects of life.

On his part, Kuwait University (KU) Professor, Dr. Abdullah Al-Ajmi said that his country's experience countering terrorism and extremism could be considered as a model for other nations to follow, pointing out that a regional and international center for moderation was opened in Kuwait to spread these good ideals.

He also commended the role played by the government and other civil authorities in spreading peace and understanding amongst people.
