Kuwait donates USD 6.4 million to UN agencies

The State of Kuwait on Monday announced voluntary donations amounting to USD 6.419 million for the 2017 aid programs of the UN agencies.

Announcing the new contributions at a press conference, Kuwait's deputy permanent delegate to the UN Abdulaziz Saud Al-Jarallah said Kuwait has honored all its aid pledges pursuant to the directives and initiatives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The new contributions reaffirm Kuwait's long history of supporting the economic development around the globe, he added. Al-Jarallah noted that USD two million will go to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), USD one million to the UN's refugee agency (UNHCR), and USD one million to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund, (CERF).

The contributions also include USD 570,000 which will go to the UN Development Program (UNDP), USD 500,000 to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, USD 500,000 to the UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR), USD 354,000 to UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), USD 200,000 to the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), USD 200,000 to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), USD 50,000 to the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), USD 20,000 to the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), USD 10,000 to the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, USD 10,000 to the UN housing fund, and USD 5,000 to the UN Fund for Drug Abuse Control.
