Kuwait has increased the number of its diplomatic missions abroad and subsequently their expenses, the foreign minister announced on Wednesday. Number of the diplomatic mission abroad increased from 80 in 2006 to 105 now, thus their expenditures have soared by 300 percent, said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, also the First Deputy Prime Minister, during a parliamentary debate on State departments' allotments.

With hike of the number of the missions over 11 years, "it is normal that the cost of rents increases," he said, acknowledging that he was not satisfied with the mounting costs, indicating his favoring for purchasing plots instead of renting offices to house the missions.

The minister indicated that he was facing some obstacles at this level, namely time-wasting red tape, affirming the approach to switch to the purchasing plots as a better option.
