Kuwait determined to honor Amir's renewable energy vision - Official

Kuwait is determined to honor His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al­Ahmad Al­Jaber Al­Sabah's vision to provide 15 percent of domestic's electricity from renewable energy by 2035, a senior official said Monday. Sheikh Talal Nasser Al­Sabah, Oil Ministry's Acting Undersecretary, said Kuwait was pursuing His Highness the Amir's vision through clear energy projects.

He was speaking to KUNA on sidelines of the Arab Energy Conference, held in Marrakech. Sheikh Talal said the delegation of Kuwait was highlighting His Highness the Amir's vision and related mega projects like Al­Zour Refinery which would produce 615,000 barrels per day (bpd), the petrochemicals complex, the Shaqaya renewable energy and Debdebah solar energy project.

Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al­Sabah, Director General of Kuwait Environment Public Authority (EPA), said Kuwait could benefit from Arab energy expertise specially the renewable energy ones.

He said conferees would discuss promising clean­energy project, waste recycling and wind energy. Kuwait, said Sheikh Abdullah, was producing 6­7 percent of clear energy.
