Members of Kuwait Toastmasters Club achieved heartening results at Area 14 (Division I) Annual Speech Contest 2016 which was held at the American University of Kuwait on 25 March.
Prolific speakers from Kuwait Toastmasters and other four clubs of Area 14 participated in the contests in four categories, namely, Impromptu speaking known as Table Topics, Speech Evaluations in which speakers evaluate a target speaker and suggest improvements, Humorous speech where speakers take up a theme to entertain the audience and finally International Speech through which motivational and inspirational stories and messages are conveyed.
Kuwait Toastmasters was represented by Toastmasters Santosh Kumar and Satish Kumar, both eminent speakers who have traveled a path of self-learning and learning through feedback from other members to improve their communication skills.
TM Satish Kumar, collected three trophies, winning the Humorous speech contest with his speech ‘Laugh - the world will laugh with you’, placed as first runner-up in the Table Topics contest and second runner-up in Evaluation contest.
TM Santosh Kumar won the first runner-up trophy in the International Speech category with his speech ‘Rehmatulla’. Both will now represent Kuwait Toastmasters Club at the Annual Division I Speech Contests to be held on 6 May at the Australian College of Kuwait.
The victories by Toastmasters Santhosh and Satish has added few more feathers to Kuwait Toastmasters’ cap.
When asked, TM Santosh said, “joining Toastmasters has helped me in organizing and expressing my thoughts better and has also aided me to improve my listening skills. The self-phased and feedback oriented training has helped me at the work place to communicate better during presentations and official interactions”.
TM Satish, reflected back on his Toastmasters journey and said, “Toastmasters is a great self and team learning forum for developing communication and leadership skills very essential in the modern world. I am immensely helped by Toastmasters in being able to speak in an organized manner, putting across my view points in a crisp and concise way.”
Kuwait Toastmasters Club, is the first and oldest Toastmaster Club in Kuwait. Formed in 1999 with the initiative and vision of a group of enthusiastic individuals of Kuwait to develop leadership and communication skills amongst Kuwaitis and expats,the club recently celebrated its 17th anniversary. Some of the founder members of the club are active even now and are still mentoring Kuwait Toastmasters Club members with their enormous experience and knowledge in communication skills.
Toastmasters is a nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills.
Toastmasters Clubs in ‘non-native English speaking’ locations are great destinations for people aspiring to improve their English communication skills. Most clubs meet twice a month, helping members practice various skills useful in public speaking.
