The Municipal Council approved a scheme providing free internet services in major local markets, starting with the large popular Al-Mubarakiah.
The council, during its regular session of the 11th term, approved the meeting minutes of the special needs committee; whereby the members affirmed necessity of providing services for this segment of the society by the government departments, noting existence of shortcomings in the construction legislations and government services.
Public Authority for Housing Welfare will distribute houses to citizens of special challenges, the members indicated during the meeting, hoping that the residential units' specifications would be proper for the disabled.
There are "good legislations and the State officials have been seeking to serve this segment, however there have been routine procedures that obstruct providing the aspired services particularly with respect of the construction," some members noted during the meeting.
Moreover, the Council members have acknowledged that there are failures in designing residential units and districts for securing certain lanes and other facilities for the handicapped.
The Council agreed on forming a committee, headed by member Abdullah Al-Kanderi and including a number of members, for finding solutions to the architectural blunders that obstruct livelihood and movement of the disabled. It also tackled other issues within its jurisdictions.
