On 11 March, 2011 Japan faced one of the most devastating earthquakes in its history, after which Japan received generous donations from all over the world, including Kuwait, to contribute in the rehabilitation of devastated areas.

In the Aquamarine Fukushima, as the first step for the recovery, Kuwait-Fukushima Friendship Memorial Japanese Garden is constructed to show Japan’s gratitude to Kuwait.

The memorial Japanese Garden consists of 8 different exhibits such as ‘Kudzu (Japanese arrowroot) Tunnel’ which is made with bamboo and Kudzu, ‘Living Desert’ which introduces the nature of Oasis in the desert of Kuwait, and ‘Monumental Stone of Samegawa’ which is a monument commemorating the friendship with Kuwait.
