Kuwait Cricket organizes refresher training workshop for umpires

As part of preparations for the next cricket season 2015-16, Kuwait Cricket organized a Refresher Training Workshop for Match Referees, Umpires and Scorers.  The extensive session was held in Sulabiyia Cricket Pavilion on Friday, 28 August, 2015 and attended by 35 Match officials.

Kuwait Cricket Executive Council member, Riaz Chaudhry, who is Director for Match Officials, conducted this comprehensive session. The session started with a detailed report on Match Officials performance during previous cricket season 2014-15. Riaz congratulated the members for excellent performance which has been acknowledged and appreciated by Kuwait Cricket management, all the teams, cricketers and cricket lovers. He also shared the observation in few areas which could be improvised.

Kuwait Cricket is an Associate member of International Cricket Council (ICC), full member of Asian Cricket Council and sole officially recognized cricket body by local sports authorities thus the Kuwait Cricket umpires getting appointed in international tournaments organized by ICC and ACC both at home and abroad. The meeting was applauded  the performance by Riaz Chaudhry in 17th Asian Games held in Incheon (South Korea) and Imran Mustafa Haji in  ACC Twenty-20 Cup held in UAE.

Kuwait hosted ACC Under-19 Premier Cup in November 2014 and a many members of Kuwait Cricket Umpires Panel were appointed for this event.  This included umpires, Zahid Usman, John Saloman, Naveen D’Souza, Imran Mustafa, Naveed Butt, Francis Viegas, Naresh D’Souza and Gerald Pinto whereas Irfan Adil, Fareed Dalwai and Riaz Chaudhry were assigned as Match Referees.

Major part of the workshop was devoted to highlight and familiarize the match officials with ICC revised playing conditions and recently amended 6th Edition of Laws of Cricket 2000 Code, as issued by the custodian of cricket regulations, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

Imran Rumani held a session regarding techniques of on-line scoring and shared important features of this soft-ware with the members. A certificate awarding ceremony was held for recently accredited Level 2 umpires.  Kuwait Cricket’s Director General Asad Baig was the guest of honor and he gave the certificates to Zahid Usman, Naveen D’Souza, Maryam Omar and Amna Sharif Tariq. 

The occasion was also availed for acknowledging the administrative support by members and honouring them with mementos. Those honored were Fareed Dalwai, John Saloman, Zahid Usman, Naresh D’Souza and Imran Mustafa Haji.
