Kuwait Airways says Airbus planes order still on
November 25, 2013, 10:23 am

Kuwait Airways is pursuing a deal to purchase 25 aircraft from Airbus and will start taking delivery of the planes in early 2018, according to the airline's chairman Sami Al-Nisf.

Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, Al-Nisf, also managing director, said the corporation will receive the new Airbus aircraft according to a timetable between 2018 and 2020.

In comments published by Kuwait News Agency, Al-Nisf indicated that the KAC will lease 10 A320 aircraft, five A320s and five used A330s.

He added that the airline was buying the five used aircraft instead of leasing them due to the cost involved.

Al-Nisf indicated that part of the KD442 million fund, that had been previously set up to make up for the KAC losses, would be used for the aircraft procurement.

His comments come a few weeks after reports that the airline had been forced to delay the arrival of new planes because the government had failed to approve the airline’s budget.
