Waghiware Cricket Club (WCC) successfully organized the 6th addition in a row of the Kokan Premier League (KPL), the most popular tennis ball cricket tournament in Kuwait. The past year was special as we also witnessed the inception of the Kokan Premier League – Nights an exclusive hard ball tournament for the Kokani speaking community across the coastal region of Kokan in Maharashtra. Some of the finest teams representing the Kokani speaking community in Kuwait participated in both events.
Key sponsors of the premier event KPL6 were Salim Hasan Kaskar, Mohammed Saleh Burud, Dr. Abdul Razzak Rumane, Grand Hyper, Al Khaleej Traders, Baxel Construction Materials, Marwa Restaurant and Rumani Travels. This year both KPL Nights and KPL6 were organized by WCC in association with Kuwait Cricket at their lush green Sulaibiya cricket ground.
The special guests on this occasion included Mr. Asad Baig (Director General of Kuwait Cricket), Mr. Mohammed Saleh Burud, Dr Abdul Razzak Rumane, Mr. Ayub Kacheri (Director Grand Hyper), Mr. Salim Desai, Iqbal Vanoo (Domestic Cricket Director at Kuwait Cricket), Mr. Nigel Thicket (Baxel Holding) and Mr. Mahmood Ismail (Al Bader Shipping).
On behalf of the KPL organizers WCC, Mr. Burud presented mementos to all those who have been supporting KPL since its inception. He congratulated the WCC on successfully organizing KPL on such a large scale. The KPL Awards were held after the finals. Al Sayer were declared the KPL Nights Champions, while Al Nida were crowned Champions of KPL6 2015.
KPL Nights Finals
The finalists included Al Sayer and United Boys; Al Sayer won the toss and elected to field first. Al Sayer restricted United Boys to 114 for 6 wickets in 20 overs, and chased the runs in in 16.2 overs. Al Sayer won the match by 5 wickets. Nawaf Ahmed from Al Sayer was named the Man of the Match for his all-round performance 47(34) and 3 wickets. United Boys won the Runner Up trophy, while Rising Stars was adjudged the Most Disciplined Team.
The Finalists included Al Nida and Flora Strikers; Al Nida won the toss and elected to bat first. Al Nida scored 124 for 6 wickets in 12 overs, and restricted the opposition at 47 runs to win the finals by a whopping 77 runs. Waheed Deshmukh 31 (14) and Anis Darekhan 35 (22) helped Al Nida put up a huge total. Asif Pardesi from Al Nida was named the Man of the Match for match winning 5 wickets in 3 overs.
Flora Strikers won the Runner Up trophy, Chiplun Tigers won the Third Place trophy, while 786RCC was adjudged the Most Disciplined Team.

Ikram Karbari from 786RCC was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of KPL6. This year KPL organizers WCC have teamed up with cric-score.com for live ball by ball relay of their hardball games and cric-ten.com for live ball by ball relay of the tennis ball games. The event was attended by a huge crowd of more than 200 people to encourage the teams.
