The 4th KMA IDF Interschool Health Quiz 2013 competition was held at Kuwait Medical Association Hall. It was a great success with equal participation from audience as well as contesting teams from different schools. The students from all Indian schools in Kuwait participated with great fervor and enthusiasm .The KMA IDF Interschool Health Quiz has became an iconic event of academic and intellectual interest conducted by IDF every year since 2010. Scores of people comprising students, teachers, principals, parents, doctors and other dignitaries from Indian diaspora witnessed the event.
Dr. Ajay Dsouza was the compere and welcomed the guests and various dignitaries. He also engaged the audience with interesting audience round of quiz supported by Dr. Anju John. Charge D’Affairs and Deputy Chief of Mission H.E – Mr. Subhashish Goldar was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the event. At his inaugural speech he acknowledged Indian Doctors Forum as an organization of immense popularity not only among Indian community but among the other expatriates and citizens of Kuwait. He appreciated IDF for its extensive outreach programs for the poor and marginalized of the society. He was pleased to know about the services of Indian Doctors in the country.
IDF President Dr Amir Ahmed in his Presidential address outlined the importance of such an academic event and encouraged the students and participants. The event started with registration of the contestants of each school at 4.00 PM. From each school two students of 10, 11 and 12 grade registered for the preliminary written examination and among them 6 teams comprising two students were declared as finalists for the main quiz competition.
The quiz was conducted by the quizmasters Dr. Radhakrishna Panicker and Dr.Lata Rijhwani. They were assisted by Dr. Suraj V. Davis, Dr. Ajay Dsouza, Dr Grace Alex and Dr.Sakeer. The subject matter of the quiz was the evolution of medical science from ancient history to the present day modern medicine with technological advances. Special importance was given to environment awareness, genetic engineering, biotechnology and bioengineering.
The quiz was a portal to inspire the young generation to take up medical profession by combining the technology and modern day practice of medicine. Eminent medical personalities, their research and dedication of life for the evolution of modern day medicine were shown in the form of questions to motivate young medical aspirants. The quiz concluded by a lightening round to check comprehension, astuteness and memory of the participants. Interesting questions put forth to the audience with attractive instant prizes.
The quiz was followed by felicitation of children of Indian Doctors who scored more than 90% in the final board examinations of 10th and 12th grades. They were presented with merit certificates, gifts and plaque.
The winners were declared by the quiz master, Dr. Radhakrishna Panicker. The team from Fahaheel Al Watanieh Indian Private School (DPS) – Rohan Mahesh & Jeffrey Soundra Rajan bagged the first place with IDF rolling trophy. The team from United Indian School – Fiona Sunny Kurian & Esra Haroon were the first runners up and the team from Indian Educational School (Bhavans) – Mitoshi Nandi & Amal John James stood third.
Trophies and certificates were given by distinguished dignitaries who had graced the occasion in presence of the Chief Guest. The event was sponsored by Gulfmart, Centerpoint, Toyota, Jabriya Indian School, Al Ahlia Chemicals and Al Mulla Exchange Company. IDF appreciated the positive role played by all the sponsors in promoting education and spreading knowledge among the community by their generous sponsorship. The mega annual event concluded by vote of thanks delivered by IDF Vice President Dr. Vinod Grover.
