Kozhikode District Association Kuwait (KDA) organized its 6th Anniversary celebrations - ‘Kozhikode Fest 2016’ on 29 January at the Indian Central School, Abbassiya.
Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Sunil Jain inaugurated the event, in the presence of the chief guest, Kozhikode District Collector Prasanth Nair I.A.S. and other eminent personalities, including prominent social-worker from Kozhikode Adv. Sreejith, Indian Embassy Dy. Chief of Mission Subhashis Goldar, KDA President Ramdas Chilamban, General Secretary Abdul Najeeb T.K. and members of the Association.
Attendance of the Kozhikode Collector was a highlight of the function, as Mr. Nair is known for his leadership in humanitarian activities, which represents the core objectives of the Association. His ongoing campaign ‘Compassionate Kozhikode’ conveys a kind hearted message to the society on showing compassion to people in distress.
This year, KDA instituted an award in memory of late legend Gireesh Puthenchery, who made many great contributions to the Malayalam film industry. The award was presented to popular Indian playback singer Najim Arshad in recognition of his talent and performance in the music arena.
As part of KDA celebrations, Najim Arshad headlined a musical concert along with singers Saleel and Geo supported by stage artists Preethi Warrier, Ambika Ragesh and other well-known singers. ‘Patturumal’ fame Mammali introduced a regional twist to the line up with a variety of mappila songs while other talented artists of the Association provided a variety of entertainment items all of which helped create a memorable evening for the audience.
