The Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs is keen on implementing international humanitarian laws, said Minister Yaqoub Al-Sanea here Sunday.
Speaking at the opening session of the four-day regional conference on humanitarian law, Al-Sanea said that Kuwait was keen on reinforcing international humanitarian law as part of its commitment to global justice.
The conference, organized by the ministry in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is in line with the Kuwaiti leadership and people's keenness on justice and humanitarian law, said the minister.
On his part, head of the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies (KIJS) Justice Adel Al-Issa said that the conference was keen on spreading public awareness on the subject of international humanitarian law, noting that such a step would solidify notions of human rights in the region.
Meanwhile, ICRC's Regional Commissioner Gerard Peytrignet lauded Kuwait's efforts in hosting such a conference, affirming that the event would tackle issues pertaining to human rights during times of war and peace.
