‘Jobless, drug addicts, ex-securitymen involved in street offenses’
Each day Kuwait is witnessing robbery crimes by use of force, mostly carried out against expatriate Asians, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The daily added, since the beginning of 2014 and until the end of August last the country witnessed 700 crimes of robbery by use of force. This was disclosed by a security source, stressing that the crimes of robbery by use of force have increased during the past two years using new methods considered alien to the Kuwaiti society.
According to the source, some of those arrested are either former security personnel a majority of whom are jobless or drug addicts. The source revealed in a majority of cases the assailants are unknown and this means the security authorities need to deploy more securitymen in some areas.
The source noted Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh is one of the districts which records the highest number of theft cases by use of force. He explained the statistics issued by the research center for last year, showed theft by use of force registered an increase during the past two years.
In 2013 the total number of crimes committed stood at 1,012 and 819 in 2012. The source added that it would require more security measures, and development of an integrated plan in collaboration with the competent authorities to discuss the motives of the crime and ways to reduce them since most of the cases are registered against unknown persons.
According to the source, this dangerous phenomenon involves the redistribution of security patrols and deployment in residential areas in proportion to the population density.
