Jazeera Airways to join Dubai's Al Maktoum Airport
October 1, 2013, 5:35 pm

Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways will become the third commercial airline to operate passenger services at Dubai’s new Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central (DWC).

The airline will launch two new weekly flights between Kuwait City and Dubai from the facility, located near Jebel Ali, while all of its existing services will continue to operate at Dubai International Airport, it announced on Tuesday.

The change will take place from October 31.

Low-cost carriers Wizz Air – from Hungary – and nasair – from Saudi Arabia – will be the first passenger airlines to set-up at the new airport, operating flights from October 28.

In a statement, Jazeera Airways said it chose to launch flights to DWC because of its close proximity to the resort area of Jumeirah Beach Residence.

The new services will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays.

“This is great news for all our Dubai weekend travellers,” Jazeera Airways vice president of ground operations and product Ali Fairooz said.

“The new airport offers an easy and seamless airport experience. Our customers now have the choice between flying to Dubai International, located in the heart of Dubai, or to Al Maktoum International, located an arm’s length from Dubai’s resort city of Jumeirah.”

Flights between Kuwait and Dubai on Jazeera Airways have increased 55 percent in the past year, the airline announced in August.

Dubai is the most popular destination for Kuwaiti travellers from Kuwait, including for business and leisure.

Al Maktoum is gradually being built to accommodate Dubai’s rapidly expanding aviation sector. It is expected to be the world’s largest airport with 160m passengers and 12m tonnes of cargo annually when it is fully operational.
