Indonesian Embassy holds tourism roadshow in Kuwait

The embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuwait in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia held a tourism roadshow ‘Festival of Wonderful Indonesia’ on Tuesday, 5 December at the embassy premises. The joint activity was intended to promote Indonesia among tourism business communities that included travel agencies and sellers. Table top meetings between local and Indonesian delegates were held to discuss further cooperation to achieve Indonesia’s goal of 20 million international arrivals by 2019. 

In a powerpoint presentation by Nia Niscaya, Director of International Tourism Promotion for EMEAA Region stated that Kuwait has been listed as one of main markets in the Middle East for the potential outbound number year by year. However from a statistical perspective, it is encouraging to review our arrivals this past year. In 2016, there were 12 million foreign tourists who came to Indonesia which was a 15.54 % increase over 2015. The arrival target for 2017 is 15 million visitors. The number of international tourists to Indonesia from January to September 2017 rose 25.05 % over the number in 2016, raised from 8.36 million to 10.45 million visitors.

Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Tatang Budie Utama Razak, in a brief introduction prior to a video presentation, thanked travel agents and sellers for coming to the roadshow and urged them for closer collaboration and cooperation in promoting Indonesia. “To talk about my country is endless, our incomparable destinations, welcoming diverse culture and warm hospitality of our people are among the many reasons why one should visit Indonesia,” commented Ambassador Razak.

Several important topics were discussed that included the establishing of TXI (Tourism Exchange Indonesia), a Go Digital strategy for developing a digital marketplace that allows access to various, and a wide range of real-time tourism products. The one hundred thousand homestays intend Priority Destinations, a development of 20,000 (twenty thousand) tourism village homestays as a part of an elaborate program with the aim of ultimately developing a 100,000 (hundred thousand) homestays by 2019. ‘3A’ Collaboration: Airlines, Airports & Air Authorities, this strategic plan aims to increase the number of airlines flying to Indonesia, the destinations they fly to, and their schedule frequency. The Asian Games to be held in Indonesia in 2018, and hosted by the country is scheduled from 18 August to 2 September, 2018.

Among the highlights of the tourism roadshow were cultural performances that represented different regions in Indonesia, contemporary popular singers and a generous spread of Indonesian cuisine. Ambassador Razak also gave away round-trip tickets with all-expense paid accommodations to Indonesia among travel agencies representatives.
