The Indian embassy organized a function on 3 November at its premises to commemorate the 141st birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. The day is also celebrated as Rastriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day. A large gathering of embassy officials, Indian nationals and students attended the event. Rastriya Ekta Diwas, celebrated on 31 October, honors the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel and is observed by Indians in the country and abroad through a variety of events.
Sardar Patel, known as the ‘Iron Man of India’, was a very important social and political leader. He played a significant role in India's struggle for freedom and following India's independence, he was the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India.
During the function, students from Integrated Indian School, Indian Educational School, Delhi Public School, Indian Community School (Senior Wing-Salmiya) and Indian Community School- Khaitan delivered eloquent speeches that detailed the contributions and highpoints of Sardar’s background.
Then, the audience watched a 40-minute documentary titled, ‘A Man of silence’ on the life and accomplishments of Sardar Patel that gave a detailed account of his life story from childhood to the freedom struggle.
