A tribute to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was held at the Indian Embassy premises on the morning of 2 October with several dignitaries, diplomats and prominent Indians in attendance.

Ambassador of India H.E. Jeeva Sagar addressed the gathering recalling the great accomplishments of Mahatma Gandhi, also known as the Father of the Nation. Ambassador Sagar spoke eloquently of the global recognition that Gandhiji attained and the relevance of his teaching even today.

“The best tribute we are capable of paying is to invoke his spirit and blessings, to give us the strength and humanity to try and follow his values and ideals to the best of our abilities, and to pray for the best,” Ambassador Sagar said.

A floral tribute was then done by the Chief Guest, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs at Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sulaiman Ali Saeed.

This was followed by a speech from the Resident Coordinator for United Nations Development Programme in Kuwait, H.E. Dr. Tarek Sheikh, who spoke about Mahatma Gandhi’s great role in promoting non-violence, and read out a message from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
