May 14, 2016, 9:16 am

Uma Children’s Home is one of the most famous orphanages in Tamil Nadu’s Karur District. Ms. Umarani, a social worker from Thokkupatty village, in Karur district started a home for orphaned children. She adopts these girls and provides them with food, accommodation, education and health care.

Ms. Uma has always wanted to do something for the society and this home is a means for her to fulfill her wish. These children are also provided with basic training in handicraft works which are later sold off. She believes that these girls must be trained at a young age to survive on their own.

Uma Children’s home, as they call it started in the year 2011 with five girls. The number has now risen to 35. With the help of her two daughters, who are doctors, Ms. Uma is doing well helping others.

On hearing about her social activities, Indian Frontliners association, Kuwait contacted her and based on her request and donated a television for the children to watch and enjoy during their leisure time.

Also Indrakumar Raju, Chejerla Indirani Charitable Trust, Kuwait one of IFL’s well wisher provided them with financial help.

Despite being on her own, Ms. Uma is successfully running the home and seeks help from any grateful donators who wish to help her too.
