Director- General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) William Lacy Swing on Friday hailed the international humanitarian role by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in light of the current serious humanitarian situation worldwide. Speaking at a meeting with Kuwait’s permanent delegate at the UN and International Organizations in Geneva Jamal Al-Ghuneim at the IOM headquarters, Swing voiced optimism at the donors conference due in London next month, saying it will be cochaired by Kuwait, Germany, Britain and Norway.
In this context, he lauded Kuwait’s experience in the field of humanitarian activities and international confi dence in the wisdom and leadership of His Highness the Amir. On his part, Ambassador Al- Ghuneim hailed close relations between Kuwait and the IOM, adding that bilateral cooperation has been expanded over the past three years. He appreciated periodical visits by the IOM chief to the State of Kuwait, pointing to Kuwait’s relentless support to refugees and homeless people worldwide out of religious and humanitarian considerations.
Kuwait and international humanitarian organizations have been making preparations and arrangements for the London donors conference, he added. Meanwhile, Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Dr Hilal Al-Sayer emphasized the important role of media to convey, to the world, Kuwait’s approach and mythology to humanitarianism.
