Winners of the Ruth Memorial Interschool Art Contest walked away with fabulous prizes on November 18, 2014 amidst rolling applause and jubilation. Yet in the midst of euphoria of victory and elation, there stood a few with misty-eyed, enwrapped themselves in the memory of a prodigious painter par excellence Ruth Chacko who bade adieu to the world of mortals to be with lord Almighty. She was a young Bhavanite who loved the palette and colors more than anything else.
The Art Department of Indian Educational School (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) organizes Ruth Art Memorial Interschool Competition to commemorate late Ruth Chacko every year. The event is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Prince Chacko, the parents of the departed prodigy.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony of Ruth Memorial Art Contest is held annually on 18 November as Little Ruth’s birthday falls on that date. The ceremony was well attended by a fairly large audience that consisted of teachers, parents, participants and Little Ruth’s batch mates.
The Ruth Memorial Art Contest had a humble beginning as an Interclass Art Competition five years ago. It was the farsighted vision of Mr.N.K. Ramachandran Menon, the Chairman of Bhavan Middle East that turned the mundane competition into a renowned and full-fledged Interschool Art Contest for the budding artists of various Indian schools in Kuwait.
The fifth edition of Ruth Memorial Art Contest was held on November 08, 2014 in the school auditorium. The Painting Competition was adjudged by well-known professional artists Mr.John Mavelikkara and Mr. Maheendran. Upon asked, the duo said that it was a tough time for them to sift out the most impressive artistic creations from an excellent array of 115 awe-inspiring paintings that heralded the supremacy and elegance of their creators.
The first, the second and the third place winners were presented cash awards and mementos by Mr. and Mrs. Chacko, parents of late Ruth along with Mr. Mukundan, the Head of the Art Faculty, IES. Mr. Prince Chacko addressed the gathering after the prize distribution. He, in his emotional speech, reminded the children of their duties towards their parents, teachers and the society. Principal Mr. T. Premkumar congratulated the prize winners and thanked the parents of late Ruth for patronizing Ruth Memorial Interschool Art Contest every year. He urged the winners as well as the participants to tap their creative potential fully in order to excel in the world of fine arts. The Junior Prefects Ibtal Iftikhar and Ruth Sunil Thomas delivered the welcome address. Mr. T.Premkumar proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the school.
