IAK organizes Onam-Eid celebration

Idukki Association Kuwait (IAK) conducted its Onam-Eid celebration named ‘Ona Nilavu’ on 8 September, 2017 at Smart Indian School Auditorium. The celebration was inaugurated by Prof. Gopinath Muthukadu, a well-known magician, escapologist, life coach, and motivational speaker from Kerala, who promised in his inauguration speech to provide all possible assistance in the humanitarian activities by IAK in Idukki District.

The inauguration started with the welcoming of 'Mahabali' in a traditional manner accompanied by a traditional Ghoshayathra with thalappoli,  chendamelam and 'Pulikali'. After the inauguration, a colourful Thiruvathira was staged by IAK lady members, which added color to the celebration.

President Jeral Jose presided over the public meeting and General Secretary Jackson Chacko welcomed the gathering. Indian Embassy Second Secretary (Community welfare) P.P. Narayanan, K.G. Abraham, John Mathew, R.C. Suresh and Dr. Amir Ahmed (President – Indian Doctor’s Forum) delivered felicitations. The celebration had the presence of leaders of many reputed cultural and social organizations and other socially recognized personalities. 

IAK handed over its 2nd Humanitarian Award to Santhwanam Kuwait, an organization mainly concentrated in providing direct and indirect care to diseased, distressed, homeless, highly needy individuals and poor families in India and Kuwait. Binu Sukumaran, Vice President and Santhosh Joseph, General Secretary received the award representing Santhwanam Kuwait, who shared Santhwanam Kuwait’s gratitude to have this recognition for the first time on stage in front of such a large audience. IAK Advisory Board Chairman Joy Mundakkattu greeted Santhwanam Kuwait on the occasion and declared that the Award will be known as “Sunny Mathew Memorial Humanitarian Award’ from next year.

Idukki Association ‘Vanithavedi’ was officially inaugurated by Prof. Gopinath Muthukadu, by launching the Logo. IAK Vanithavedi Chairperson Shamla Biju took charge with her Executive committee of 11 members and explained that the primary motive of Vanithavedi is to bring the ladies in Kuwait hailing from Idukki district to the mainstream and encourage their cultural-social activities. She added that it was also to ensure their participation in the humanitarian activities conducted by Idukki Association in Kuwait and in Idukki District. IAK Vanithavedi declared their first project was to donate clothing for selected orphanages in the district of Idukki and revealed their success in collecting new clothing worth RS.8 lakhs till date, which will be shortly dispatched to the selected orphanages in Idukki District.

The celebration was filled with various competitions for children and adults, including onappattu, drawing/painting competitions, children’s fashion show, payasam competition, dances and many other performance arts.

IAK Souvenir named ‘Ona Nilavu - 2017’ was released at the occasion by Prof. Gopinath Muthukad. Motivational speech by Prof. Gopinath Muthukadu, along with magic show was enjoyed by the audience who filled the auditorium, which was followed by a traditional ‘Onasadhya’. The celebration ended with a ganamela session by famous singer Jins Gopinath.
