The upcoming visit by His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Vatican City and his meeting with Pope Francis will be an exceptional event that will build bridges of understanding and tolerance, said a Kuwaiti diplomat on Monday.
Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait's Ambassador to Switzerland and Non-Resident Envoy to the Vatican Bader Al-Tunaib said that the meeting, expected for Thursday, will be an important event in the history of Kuwaiti-Vatican relations due to the fact that this is Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak's first meeting with the Pope.
The meeting is expected to focus on developing Kuwaiti-Vatican ties in addition to coordinating measures to promote peace, dialogue, and understanding amongst people of the world, said the Ambassador. In 1969, Kuwait was the first Gulf nation to establish diplomatic ties with the Vatican. The first embassy for the Vatican in the GCC region was opened in Kuwait in 1992.
