His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said Friday the UN honoring him as a "Humanitarian Leader" was "indeed an honoring for our beloved nation and for all of you my fellow citizens."
His Highness the Amir, addressing the nation days after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon honored him at the UN Headquarters in New York as "Humanitarian Leader," said "the honoring from the highest international authority, which represents countries of the world, reflects the high appreciation of this organization and the international community for the State of Kuwait and its people." His Highness the Amir said the State of Kuwait has always played a "noble and active" role in relief and humanitarian acts.
The state of Kuwait, added His Highness the Amir, has always been helping the needy people who were affected by disastes, conflicts and wars around the globe.
His Highness Sheikh Sabah said charity and helping the others were deep-rooted among the Kuwaiti people and have grown over time. "The Kuwaitis' contributions have been reaching all in every disaster ...," he added.
His Highness the Amir said he was pleased to speak to his fellow citizens following an "unprecedented" achievement in the history of "our beloved nation," which was also named "Humanitarian Ceter" in appreciation of the "noble humanitarian role of our people and government." Kuwait has through its history hurried to provide All forms of assistance and aid, in addition to contributing to international efforts in help alleviate the pain and agony of disaster-stricken peoples.
This humanitarian assistance was not granted conditionally nor was linked to any aims but serving the will of God Almighty and for noble and aspiring aims. They have received the appreciation and adulation of the world.
"It is for you my brothers and sons of my beloved nation to feel proud of this deserved honoring and the elevated position our dear nation has assumed on the international scale.
His Highness Sheikh Sabah thanked Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, National Guard Chief Sheikh Salem Ali Al-Sabah, sheikhs, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, ministers, and citizens on their heartfelt sentiments and congratulations on the occasion of naming him a "Humanitarian Leader." His Highness the Amir expressed gratitude to the Arab and world leaders and international organizations chiefs who shared Kuwait the celebrations of the UN honoring.
His Highness the Amir thanked UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on his unprecedented initiative to hold a special function to honor him and to grant him a certificate of appreciation, on behalf of the United Nations. His Highness the Amir said he is appreciative of the UN gesture.
