Heavy rainfall causes flooding in Kuwait

Kuwait received a night of heavy rainfall which caused flooding, unsafe conditions and property damage to many areas of Kuwait. In light of the flooding in many areas, on Tuesday, government ministries and departments as well as public and private schools, universities and applied educational institutes were given a day off as conditions were unsafe for travel. 

Fire services and Interior Ministry officials had to execute rescue operations in flooded areas, organizing the evacuation of people from flooded buildings, and responding to calls for assistance. Many highways had to be closed due to flooding, and traffic had to be redirected away from underpasses and other flooded areas.

In a clip circulating on whatsapp, the Avenues car park was flooded with water. There were also reports of cars damaged due to the rains and flooding, with many partially submerged in water.

The roads affected by flooding include Jahra Road and Ghazali street,  Blocks 1 and 2 of Kaifan,  parts of Cairo Street as well as Fahaheel and Sabah Al Salem areas,  also  2nd Ring Road and parts of King Faisal road, the Central Prison area roads, Aisha street,  Fourth Ring Road near Riggae, Ta’awon Street opposite Salwa, 3rd Ring Road between Da’iya and Shaab areas, the King Fahad highway, Ghous street and Fifth Ring Road opposite Omariya.
