Harley-Davidson Kuwait dealer hosts premiere screening of Being Evel
April 5, 2016, 12:19 pm

The Harley-Davidson Kuwait dealership hosted the exclusive screening of the much-heralded ‘Being Evel’ documentary movie – the incredible untold story behind the iconic daredevil Robert ‘Evel’ Knievel on 31 March, as part of their ‘Good vs. Evel’ event, which was open to those with a passion for motorcycling or motorcycling genre films alike.

Attending Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, custom bike fans, aspiring motorcycle beginners and general ‘culture-vultures’ also saw and test-rode the latest Harley-Davidson models.

Harley-Davidson Kuwait also revealed their own custom bike entry to the 2016 ‘Battle of The Kings’ competition at the event. The contest, now in its second year, has over 200 authorized dealerships across Europe, the Middle East & Africa (EMEA) competing against each other to demonstrate their originality and creative customization skills using a new Sportster® Iron 883™.

The dealership’s participation marks the first time the GCC has been represented and is testament to Harley-Davidson’s increasing custom expertise in the region.

“We’re thrilled to introduce the ‘Being Evel’ movie to Kuwait as part of our ‘Good vs. Evel’ program,” said Elsa Abi Nader, Marketing Manager MENA, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “Evel Knievel was a motorcycle rider - and a man - who took a different route, a rebel at heart that truly embodied the spirit of Harley-Davidson. “Our dealer network has rallied behind this year’s Battle of the Kings campaign with more enthusiasm than last year. These ‘Custom Kings’ and the premiere of this incredible movie showcase custom culture to a wider audience.”

Harley-Davidson collaborated with up-and-coming visual artist, Ryan Quickfall to create a series of exclusive ‘Good vs. Evel’ prints, inspired by Evel Knievel and Harley-Davidson’s unique custom culture. Just 100 art sets, containing four posters, have been created for each dealership and given to the first 100 guests to attend the ‘Good vs. Evel’ events. Each dealer also has one limited edition framed print of Quickfall’s Harley-Davidson XR750 artwork to giveaway.

Being Evel:

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Daniel Junge and starring George Hamilton, Johnny Knoxville, Tony Hawk and Evel Knievel himself, ‘Being Evel’ tells the previously untold tale of the man behind the flamboyant cape in a fantastic documentary that spans Evel’s wildly dangerous career from one-time outlaw to ramp-to-ramp motorbike jumps on a Harley-Davidson XR-750.

The movie has enjoyed widespread positive reactions from festival audiences since its world premiere at Sundance in 2015 and subsequent screenings at SXSW and Miami film festivals.

Battle of the Kings 2016:

The ‘Battle of the Kings’ contest involves staff from 240 authorized Harley-Davidson dealerships across EMEA, competing to demonstrate their originality and creative customization skills using a 2016 Iron 883.

The maximum price of the finished customized bike must be under KD5,800, which is within financial reach for plenty of custom bike fans.

The contest for the Kuwait entrant is made up of a number of stages, starting with a MENA-based competition where the region’s Custom King will be determined via a combination of public votes and input from a panel of motorcycle experts. Voting to crown the region’s Custom King began on 15 March and is due to run for one month.

The next stage will include a head-to-head contest between the MENA and European champions and the presentation of the prestigious award at the ‘Wheels & Waves’ custom lifestyle event in Biarritz, France in June 2016.

A jury of experts will choose the EMEA Custom King. The iconic Sportster family has been an American motorcycling icon since 1957. It is one of the most popular Harley model ranges for customization in the new wave custom scene, and like its predecessors, the new Iron 883 represents the ideal blank canvas to demonstrate the customization skills of the Harley-Davidson dealer network.
