His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah attended Wednesday a ceremony in UN House in Kuwait in Mishref area, held on the occasion of the first anniversary of the UN proclamation of His Highness the Amir as "Humanitarian Leader", and to name the UN HQs in Kuwait after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in recognition of his humanitarian contribution.
Upon arrival, Sheikh Nawaf was received by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Information Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, United Nations Resident Coordinator Dr. Mubashar Riaz Sheikh, senior officials, and organizing committee members of the ceremony.
The ceremony was also attended by National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and senior diplomats officials in the country. Later, His Highness the Crown Prince unveiled the Memorabilia wall painting and the naming of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as "Humanitarian Leader".
His Highness the Crown Prince then signed in the honorary guess book and took photographs with officials from UN offices. Afterward, the ceremony began with Holy Quran recitation and a speech by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon delivered on his behalf by Resident Coordinator for United Nations Dr. Mubashar Riaz Sheikh.
In the speech, Mubashar said "Kuwait is providing a platform for dialogue among humanitarian actors and has become an important venue for international events and a strong advocate for effective partnership." Mubashar added "this active engagement would not have been possible without the leadership of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the strong support of the government and the generosity of the Kuwaiti people."
The UN official said "at a time of escalating suffering in Syria and Yemen, protracted crises elsewhere in the region, and other challenges around the world, our collective responsibility to preserve human life and uphold human dignity is greater than ever," adding, " I will continue to count on His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and other leaders to maintain support for humanitarian causes, and I look forward to further cooperation with Kuwait to promote peace, sustainable development and well-being for all the world's people."
Afterward, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said, in a speech, that the renaming of UN building here in Kuwait after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah by the UN, reflects on the strong cooperation between two sides and in appreciation to Kuwait's charity and vast contributions to those in suffering around the world.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled thanked in a speech UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon for his kind gesture and this unprecedented recognition. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled added that the naming of the UN House comes to translate a humanitarian philosophy established by His Highness the Amir and based on his wise leadership, intellect, and keenness to contain disputes and crisis before the expand further and leave behind more tragedy and humanitarian suffering.
Later, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah delivered a speech on the occasion and marking the first anniversary of naming His Highness the Amir as "Humanitarian Leader". Sheikh Mohammad said such appreciation and recognition by the international community to His Highness the Amir and the State of Kuwait for their humanitarian work and efforts has bolstered the State of Kuwait's position and documented in history the Kuwaitis as being a human-loving people, insured solidarity, mutual assistance and peace.
The State of Kuwait, with the peoples of the world peace-loving are eager for security and stability and recalls the practical steps and meaning of humanitarian work, led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Sheikh Mohammad noted that the remarkable successes achieved by the previous three conferences of donors, held in Kuwait, whether in terms of both preparation and organization or at the share amount of financial pledges, was also the result of great efforts made by the Kuwaiti government under His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and relentless active work by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah.
The ceremony concluded later with a short documentary film entitled (Kuwait in the front line of humanitarian action. Then the UN representative presented a souvenir as a commemorative gift to His Highness the Crown Prince.
