October 4, 2017, 3:17 pm

The Ambassador of Germany to Kuwait H.E. Karlfried Bergner hosted a reception to commemorate the country’s National Day on 3 October at the Regency Hotel. Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah was the chief guest at the function, which was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, Kuwaiti officials, special invitees and media personnel.

Speaking to the media on the eve of his country’s National Day, Ambassador Bergner lauded the trade ties between Germany and Kuwait. “Trade relations with Kuwait are very good. We are looking forward to beefing them up in renewable energy and environmental cooperation," Ambassador Bergner said.

He also extolled the "very distinguished" bilateral relations with Kuwait, and keenness of the political leaderships in both countries to enhance them even further on all levels, especially following the official visit to Germany by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in April 2010.”

Bergner acknowledged Kuwait’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term and extended his congratulations. Last June, Kuwait gained votes of 188 members out of 192 at the UN, with its membership officially starting in January 2018.

The ambassador also noted that the UN bestowing His Highness the Amir with a 'Leader of Humanitarian Action' status, and honoring Kuwait as an ‘international humanitarian center’ were matters with which Germany could relate to, as the country currently hosts a large number of refugees. He added that there was strong cooperation on the refugees and humanitarian issues between his country and Kuwait.
