Kuwait contributed to the discovery of a gang specialized in blackmailing girls in GCC countries using fake accounts of high-profile personalities at the social networking sites, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
A Saudi newspaper was quoted as saying total coordination between the governments of Kuwait, Saudi and Palestine led to discovery of the gang of 14 members after close surveillance of the suspected fake accounts by which girls from Kuwait, Saudi, Qatar and United Arab Emirates were swindled.
The members are said to have threatened to publish photos of girls who declined to respond to their demand. The daily quoting former representative of the Regional Arab Union of Saudi Arabia Manahi Al-Thufairi said the first suspect was arrested when a 19- year old Saudi girl filed a complaint against a person threatening to publish her photos on social media after a failed marriage proposal.
Spokesperson of the Palestinian Security Department Lieutenant Colonel Aiman Al-Betainji said members of the gang blackmailed 24 girls from GCC countries and they were arrested within 24 hours.
