A bunch of criminals specialized in falsifying government stamps with high professionalism was apprehended by concerned security authorities from the Criminal Security Sector, says a press statement from the Public Relations and Security Media Department of Interior Ministry. It added that 4,000 fake KD10 stamps valued at KD 40,000 were seized from the suspects in time before their circulation. It pointed out that head of the gang (an Egyptian national) and his associates who operate the machines for stamps have been arrested.

Initial investigations indicated the gang had smuggled 4,000 stamps from an unnamed Arab country, and the leader managed to slot them into the machines with other original stamps to prevent the forgery from being detected.

The first suspect (leader of the gang) managed to escape to his home country the day after detectives had visited the company for inspection, but his details were given to the concerned Egyptian security body to facilitate his arrest. Investigations indicated that most of the fake stamps were slotted into the machines affiliated to Ministry of Health two months ago before the forgery was detected.

Statement added the Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lieutenant General Suleiman Al-Fahad has since met with officials from the Criminal Security Affairs Sector and the detectives that managed to trail the gang. He commended their efforts and permanent vigilance to stand against those who attempt to perpetrate devilish acts against the country.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Al- Fahad accompanied by Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General Abdul Hamid Al- Awadhi and some of the detectives who apprehended the gang paid a visit to the company where the stamps had been forged. In a statement, the ministry undersecretary said the discovery of the band represents intensified security efforts to protect public funds and property.
